We’re the UK’s leading security provider, offering custom-built solutions for a huge range of industries, ranging from essential security for schools and NHS facilities, to mobile guards huge warehouses and manufacturing plants. That exceptional reputation is something we’ve upheld since our inception more than 27 years ago.
We’ve always sought to ensure that expertise with formal accreditation, and our recent position as the UK’s #1 ACS-approved security firm is concrete evidence of that. Coupled with our full SIA accreditation, you’re always guaranteed a superb experience, and one that matches with what you’d expect from one of the security industry’s trailblazers.
To become a security guard in the UK, you will need a front line SIA Licence (also called an SIA badge or SIA accreditation). It’s illegal to undertake any licensed security without having this.
Before you can get an SIA licence, you’ll also need to undertake what’s called “licence-linked” training. This provides you with all the training you need to effectively complete your duties. For example, if you want to become a security guard, you’ll need to complete a Level 2 Award for Working as a Security Officer in the Private Security Sector.
Once you’ve completed this training, you’re then able to apply for your SIA Licence. To successfully get your licence, you will need to:
Although no two days are the same when you work as a security officer, there are certain duties that are essential in the role. These include:
As a nationwide security provider, we’re always recruiting throughout the UK. We’ve got sites up and down the country, and we’re constantly on the lookout for passionate and enthusiastic security professionals. You can find our general security office application at the top of this page.
Alternatively, if you’re looking for a specific region, or you’d like a job in our Head Office in Chorley, we’re also actively recruiting for permanent positions. Check out our full listings further up this page to discover more.
As you’ll have seen from this page, we’re conscious that we only have the successes and superb reputation we do because of the people we have. We’re a People First employer for a reason – we want to give back as much as we know the people who work for Churchill put in.
Our benefits are great proof of that, but it extends far beyond those. We cultivate a culture of positivity, development and growth for everyone, and reward that with awards, opportunities and progression. Plus, with constantly evolving initiatives and new schemes coming to fruition on a regular basis, the next expansion is just around the corner.
You do not need to have any past work experience or academic qualifications to work as a security guard. You only need to meet the requirements of the SIA licensing process. However, if you’ve got past experience in a similar field (such as the police, fire brigade, military, or in-house security), this can be extremely helpful, and mean you get paid an additional premium.
There are a few different skills which will also be very handy to have as a security guard. These include:
The amount you get paid can vary depending on the amount of shifts you do, as well as where you’re based (guards who live and work in London will get paid an additional premium, for example). The average salary will ranges from £18,000 to £32,000 per year, according to government estimates and the current Minimum Wage figures.
At Churchill Support Services, we take that a step further. All of our security guards are paid what’s called the National Living Wage, meaning they earn above what’s normally expected of security officers. More information on what and how you’ll be paid can be found on the individual job advertisements above.
Simply click on the job advertisement you’re interested in above, and fill out your details on the provided form. You’ll also have an opportunity to attach your CV, write out a personal statement, and leave any additional comments.
